Lines are defining moments in art, and math, beginning at a single point, moving to another in a given space.
I love working with lines in my drawings and sculpture.
While I was in college I worked with a lot of wire, creating a few sculptures. Wire sculpture involves a lot of three dimensional line.
“MM” is inspired by a wire, self-portrait bust project I did, and Marilyn Manson.
Around the age of nine or ten, I was inspired by Marilyn Manson’s music videos. He was a taboo music artist of the day, and my parents would not allow me to watch his videos or own his music. I would often sneak and watch them as often as I could, fascinated by his unconventional aesthetic and artistry.
As an adult, I grew more and more fascinated by his words as I read more and engaged myself more with the world around me. I grew a deeper understanding of his “Beautiful People” track, as well as the artist himself, after I read his autobiography.
Marilyn Manson has always been my reminder to stay beautiful and always be myself. I wanted to create my own tribute drawing to the artists who inspire me to be a better me and as a result “MM” was made.
