“A M A N T I U M”

Let’s first begin with the title.

The title translates to mean “Lovers” in English.
Though, there is a traditional meaning behind the word, ‘lovers,’ the piece is inspired by the marital union of the self, rather than that between two external beings.

Each of us has, what I refer to as, masculine and feminine energy. Masculine energy is positive and light; while feminine energy is negative and dark.
This is not to say that either one is better than the other.
Instead, balance is required between the two, and is necessary for life to manifest its best self.

The masculine white face, against the red background, neighboring the feminine black face, depicts the necessity to always face darkness head on, while never failing to recognize that light will always follow.
Though light will conquer in the end, it will never overpower, nor ever outshine, its counterpart, while blood flows through our life filled bodies.
